Wow, I didn’t realize how difficult writing creatively is. Like honestly the logical sequencing of a story takes ALOT of thought. PROPS to all those writers out there - my hat goes off to you!

Ahh, we’ve finally come to the end of the course. It’s been an amazing journey in lectures, a more of a bumpy journey in labs….but all in all certainly a course that has widened my perspective of media and the journalistic world I will be part of in a few years.
Through the lectures Laurie showed us websites, images, and videos that I would otherwise never have been exposed to. The one concept that really fascinated me was the ARG’s. I had NO idea they existed before and would have never known if it wasnt’t for digital media! I am more intuned to the creative aspect of digital media (coming up with concepts, imagery…) and so the idea of alternate reality games just blew my mind.

Before digital media I looked to the web mainly for research and social networking (in particular facebook and twitter). But Laurie has shown us that surfing the net is now an aesthetic experience which for me has become a source of ideas and inspiration.
I think labs worked well in providing us with work periods for our assignments. But I learnt the hard way about the importance of continuing work on projects outside of class!!
The course hasn’t changed my plans for the future. I still intend on pursuing a career in television. The digital media course has definitely expanded my horizons though. Through the course I’ve learnt of the openendedness of the digital world and how the global community is now part of one collective semantic web. The course has given me useful technological skills which I’m sure to put to use in the future.
The greatest thing I’m taking away from this course would be an appreciation for design. Laurie’s descriptions of what elements make up a good design has given me a keen eye for graphics which has already come into use in my everyday life. Just yesterday I was at the Mutual/Church street stoplights and looked at a poster on the pole and thought about its type and positioning! - That’s the mark the digital media course has imprinted on my mind right there :)
That’s me, the digital media course, and my journey along the way.
Bye.
